India’s Fuel Supply Fully Secure, Government Warns Against Misinformation

The Government of India has firmly assured citizens that the country’s fuel supply remains stable and sufficient, dismissing recent rumours of shortages as part of a “deliberate misinformation campaign.”

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, officials emphasized that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG anywhere in the country, and that all fuel retail outlets are operating normally without any rationing.

No shortage despite global concerns

The government highlighted India’s strong position in the global energy market, noting that the country is among the world’s leading refiners and exporters of petroleum products. With over one lakh fuel stations functioning nationwide, uninterrupted supply is being maintained.

Authorities clarified that isolated incidents of panic buying in certain areas were triggered by misleading content circulating on social media, not by any actual supply disruption.

Crude supply and reserves remain robust

Addressing concerns linked to geopolitical tensions, including disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz, the Ministry stated that India continues to source crude oil from over 41 suppliers globally. Increased availability in international markets has offset any potential gaps.

India currently maintains around 60 days of fuel stock, with total reserve capacity extending up to 74 days, ensuring long-term energy security.

LPG production increased, imports secured

The government also reassured households about LPG availability. Domestic production has been ramped up by about 40%, significantly reducing dependence on imports. Additionally, large volumes of LPG shipments from multiple countries are already on the way to India.

Officials noted that the recent spike in LPG demand was temporary and driven by panic ordering, which has now normalized.

PNG expansion part of long-term strategy

The promotion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG), the Ministry clarified, is not a response to any shortage but part of a broader strategy to provide cleaner and more affordable fuel options. The number of PNG connections has increased significantly over the years, reflecting steady infrastructure expansion.

Government warns against fake information

Expressing concern over misleading videos and posts, the government cautioned that false claims about fuel shortages and emergency measures are being spread to create panic. It urged citizens to rely only on official sources for accurate information.

The Ministry also warned that spreading misinformation about essential commodities is a punishable offence, and strict action may be taken against those responsible.

Conclusion:
Despite global uncertainties, India’s energy supply remains secure, supported by strong refining capacity, diversified imports, and ample reserves. The government has called on citizens to remain calm and not be misled by unfounded rumours.
