The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday announced a major breakthrough in the Red Fort area car-bomb blast case with the arrest of a Kashmir-based suspect accused of assisting the suicide bomber who carried out the deadly attack on November 10.
The explosion, triggered by a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (IED), killed 10 people and left 32 injured, shaking the national capital and prompting a multilayered probe by central and state law-enforcement agencies.
The arrested suspect, identified as Amir Rashid Ali, a resident of Samboora in Pampore, Jammu and Kashmir, was taken into custody in Delhi after the NIA took over the investigation from the city police. According to the agency, the car used in the blast was registered in Aliโs name.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Ali allegedly conspired with Umar Un Nabi, the purported suicide bomber, to execute the attack. The NIA stated that Ali had traveled to Delhi to help arrange the vehicle later packed with explosives.
Forensic analysis has confirmed the deceased driver of the explosive-laden car as Nabi, an assistant professor in the General Medicine Department at Al Falah University in Faridabad and a resident of Pulwama district. A second vehicle belonging to Nabi has also been seized and is undergoing forensic examination for possible links to the attack.
The NIA has so far examined 73 witnesses, including survivors of the blast, as part of the widening probe. Investigators are working to map the broader conspiracy and identify additional individuals who may have supported or financed the attack.
The agency said it is operating in close coordination with Delhi Police, Jammu & Kashmir Police, Haryana Police, Uttar Pradesh Police, and other partner agencies as it pursues โmultiple leadsโ connected to case number RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI.
The Red Fort area blast, one of the most serious security incidents in the capital in recent years, has intensified calls for heightened vigilance and improved intelligence coordination across states.
